Editorial Policy

Teacher Education and Special Education is the official journal of the Teacher Education Division (TED) of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). The purposes of TED are:

  • to stimulate and improve the preparation of those who will teach and otherwise work with and for children with disabilities;
  • to encourage research on questions relating to exceptionality and to the teaching of children with disabilities;
  • to establish liaisons with organizations of allied purposes; and
  • to assist chapters and federations of TED in carrying our these purposes at state or provincial levels.

The purposes of Teacher Education and Special Education are:

  • to support goals of TED and
  • to stimulate thoughtful consideration of the critical issues shaping the future of teacher education.

The journal publishes:

  • data-based reports of original research with direct implications for practice;
  • evaluation reports of best practices and innovations in personnel preparation programs that are grounded in the research and seek to advance current practice;
  • data-based reports of applied research;
  • interpretive or critical reviews of the literature; and
  • theoretically based discussions of best practices and innovations intended to stimulate critical discussion
